FIGHT FOR IVF

We are demanding an end to the IVF postcode lottery. NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines for fertility treatment recommend 3 NHS funded cycles of IVF for women under the age of 40 suffering with infertility. In England, over 80% of CCG’s (Clinical Commissioning Groups) fail to follow this guidance, meaning your access to IVF depends hugely on your postcode. Some CCG’s offer 3, some 2, some 1… and in some, none at all. This is absolutely unjustified and unfair; it is a huge inequality for couples across the country who suffer with infertility – something the World Health Organisation define as a disease of the reproductive system. We are demanding that CCG’s are held accountable, that they are to follow the NICE guidance and offer fair and equal treatment to IVF.

AUGUST 2021 UPDATE – CAMBRIDGESHIRE AND PETERBOROUGH CCG

After campaigning since November 2020, we are overjoyed to announce that as a result of our efforts, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG have officially reinstated IVF in their area. IVF will now be available to eligible couples within the county. You can find their new policy here.

2022 UPDATE – COUNTRY WIDE

Since the launch of the campaign, contact has been made with both CCGs in Essex at which we were told in no uncertain terms the funding was not available. The ex-health secretary, Matt Hancock MP, had been contacted in relation to the matter however due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, we received an automatic reply informing us that they were needing to effectively pick and choose what they replied to at the time.

With a new health secretary in post, The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP has been contacted with information regarding the postcode lottery and requesting his support on the matter.

We have also now uploaded a new template letter to send to your MP if you are specifically living in the two areas in which NO specialist fertility provisions are offered – namely Basildon and Brentwood, and Mid Essex.

Updates to follow in due course.
